The Story

This is Hoenn rebuilt for a new generation: the same beloved journey through forests, volcanoes, deserts, and ocean routes, now with Mega Evolution, updated graphics, and quality-of-life upgrades throughout.

Team Aqua (expand the sea) in Alpha Sapphire — or Team Magma (expand the land) in Omega Ruby — seeks to awaken the super-ancient Pokémon Kyogre or Groudon. Their Primal Reversions unleash cataclysmic weather that threatens all of Hoenn.

With the Red and Blue Orbs, you'll calm the Primal Pokémon at Sootopolis City, aided by Champion Steven and the Draconid people who have watched the skies for generations.

And the story doesn't end at the League: the Delta Episode — a full post-game chapter about a meteor hurtling toward Hoenn, the mysterious Zinnia, and a trip to space itself — is widely considered one of the best post-games in the series.

Good to Know

  • The DexNav is your best friend: sneak up on rustling Pokémon to chain encounters for hidden abilities, egg moves, perfect IVs, and boosted shiny odds.
  • TMs are reusable now — teach freely and experiment with your movesets without fear of wasting them.
  • Once you get the Eon Flute, you can Soar on Latios/Latias — flying manually over Hoenn unlocks Mirage Spots hiding legendary Pokémon.
  • Norman's gym (your dad!) is a famous difficulty spike — his Slaking hits brutally hard. Fighting types and Protect-stall tactics help.
  • Tate & Liza's double battle is another wall — bring spread moves (Rock Slide, Surf) and prioritize the faster threats.

After the Credits

  • Delta Episode: a complete post-game story — stop the meteor, meet Zinnia, soar into space with Rayquaza, and catch Deoxys.
  • Battle Resort & Battle Maison: the post-game island with the Maison battle facility and daily rematches.
  • Mirage Spots: soar over Hoenn to find rotating islands with legendaries — the weather trio's counterparts, the lake trio, the swords of justice, and more.
  • DexNav legendary hunts and secret-base training for perfecting your competitive team.
