▸TrainingEV training by generation
▸EV Training by Generation
▸Gen 3–5Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald → Black 2/White 2
Targeted battling
Defeat specific Pokémon that yield the EVs you want (e.g. Zubats for Speed). Each KO gives 1–3 EVs in a stat; 4 EVs = 1 stat point at Lv. 100.
Power items
Power Bracer, Belt, Lens, Band, Anklet, and Weight each add +4 EVs in their stat per battle. Stack with Pokérus (doubles all EV gains) for +10 per KO.
Vitamins (capped)
HP Up, Protein, Iron, Calcium, Zinc, and Carbos give 10 EVs each but stop working after 100 EVs in a stat. Use them first, then battle for the rest.
▸Gen 6X/Y, Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire
Horde battles
Use Sweet Scent/Honey in grass to summon 5 Pokémon at once — 5× the EVs per battle. With a Power item + Pokérus, one horde can give 50+ EVs.
Super Training
Touch-screen mini-games that award EVs directly, plus training bags. Slower than hordes but no battling required.
▸Gen 7Sun/Moon, Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon
SOS chaining
Weaken a wild Pokémon and let it call for help. Each ally called gives 2× EVs. Chain to 30+ for massive gains with Power items + Pokérus.
Poké Pelago
Send Pokémon to Isle Evelup for passive EV training while you do other things. Slow but fully hands-off.
▸Gen 8Sword/Shield
Vitamins (uncapped!)
Vitamins now work all the way to 252 EVs per stat — 26 vitamins maxes a stat instantly. Buy with money from the Wild Area.
Jobs
Send Pokémon on jobs from any PC. They earn EVs passively over real time, even with the game off.
Feathers
Swift Feather, Muscle Feather, etc. give 1 EV each. Farm them on Bridge Field with the Cram-o-matic.
▸Gen 9Scarlet/Violet
Vitamins from Chansey Supply
Same shop that sells mints! HP Up, Protein, Iron, Calcium, Zinc, Carbos — 10,000 Pokédollars each, uncapped. The fastest method by far.
Feathers from Tera raids
Health Feather, Muscle Feather, Resist Feather, Genius Feather, Clever Feather, Swift Feather — 1 EV each, farmable from raids.
Let's Go auto-battles
Send your lead Pokémon out with R to auto-battle outbreaks of the species that gives the EVs you want. Power items still work.
▸Legends: Z-APokémon Legends: Z-A
Battle to earn EVs
Defeat wild or trainer-owned Pokémon — each species grants EVs in its highest base stat. Check EVs on the stats page (press down on the right stick); maxed stats show sparkles.
Vitamins (uncapped)
Same as recent generations — vitamins work all the way to 252. Buy in bulk once cash is flowing from the Z-A Royale.
Quick tips
- A Pokémon can have max 510 EVs total, with max 252 in any single stat.
- The classic competitive spread is 252/252/4 — two maxed stats and 4 in a third.
- Use mints (see Items → Mints) to fix the nature after EV training — nature and EVs are independent.
- Pokérus doubles all EV gains and is the single biggest speedup in Gens 3–7.
- In Scarlet/Violet, you can check EVs on the stat screen (press L) — yellow = trained.

- A nature raises one stat by 10% and lowers another by 10% — neutral natures do neither.
- Physical attackers usually want Adamant (+Atk) or Jolly (+Spe); special attackers want Modest (+SpA) or Timid (+Spe).
- Mints change the stat effect without changing the listed nature — find them under Items → Mints.
- Breed with an Everstone to pass the parent's nature to the egg (100% in Gen 6+).
▸Shiny Hunting by Generation
▸Gen 2Gold/Silver/Crystal
Odd Egg
The Odd Egg from the Day Care has a 14% shiny chance — the best odds in the series for a gift Pokémon.
Wild encounters
Base shiny rate is 1/8192. The red Gyarados at Lake of Rage is a guaranteed shiny.
▸Gen 3–5Ruby/Sapphire → Black 2/White 2
Masuda Method
Breed two Pokémon from different-language games. Cuts odds to ~1/1638 (Gen 4) or ~1/1365 (Gen 5).
Poké Radar chaining (D/P/Pt)
Chain the same species to 40+ for odds as good as ~1/200. Breaks if you leave the grass or the wrong patch.
Shiny Charm (B2/W2)
Complete the National Dex for the Shiny Charm: 1/2731 normally, 1/1024 with Masuda.
▸Gen 6X/Y, Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire
Chain fishing
Fish consecutively without moving or missing. Chain to 20+ for dramatically boosted odds (~1/100).
DexNav chaining (OR/AS)
Sneak up on DexNav encounters to build a chain — higher chain means better odds plus egg moves and hidden abilities.
Horde encounters
Five Pokémon per horde = five shiny rolls per battle. Sweet Scent to summon.
▸Gen 7Sun/Moon, Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon
SOS chaining
Chain allies to 30+ (70+ in US/UM for max odds). With Shiny Charm, odds reach ~1/273.
Ultra Wormholes (US/UM)
Travel far through wormholes — distant wormholes have boosted shiny rates up to ~1/25 for legendaries.
▸Gen 8Sword/Shield
Brilliant Aura / combo KO
KO or catch 500+ of a species to max its brilliant-aura rate. With Shiny Charm: ~1/512.
Masuda + Charm
Still the most reliable: ~1/512 per egg with Shiny Charm.
Dynamax Adventures
Endless Dynamax Adventures — legendaries have boosted shiny odds here.
▸Gen 9Scarlet/Violet
Mass outbreaks
Clear 60+ Pokémon in an outbreak. With Shiny Charm + sparkling sandwich: ~1/512.
Sparkling sandwiches
Sandwich powers (Sparkling Lv. 3 + Encounter Lv. 3) boost shiny odds for a type for 30 minutes.
Masuda + Charm
Eggs: ~1/512 with Shiny Charm. Picnics make it fast.
▸Legends: Z-APokémon Legends: Z-A
Sparkling Power Donuts (Mega Dimension DLC)
Cook donuts maxing out Sweetness (pink stat) with 8 ingredients including Hyperspace Butter. Like S/V sandwiches but donuts — boost shiny odds for 30 minutes.
Mass outbreaks
Same concept as S/V and Arceus — clear outbreaks to boost odds. Pair with donuts for the best rates.
Quick tips
- Base shiny odds were 1/8192 through Gen 5, then doubled to 1/4096 from Gen 6 on.
- The Shiny Charm roughly triples your odds in most games — always worth getting.
- Shiny Pokémon never have better stats — it's purely cosmetic (and bragging rights).
- Save before static encounters and gift Pokémon so you can reset for shiny.
▸IVs & Hyper Training
▸What are IVs?All generations
Individual Values
Each stat has a hidden IV from 0–31. At Lv. 100, each IV is worth 1 stat point — a 31 IV stat is 31 points higher than 0.
Checking IVs
Gen 7+: unlock the Judge function on the PC (hatch 20+ eggs in S/M, or beat the game in Sw/Sh and S/V). 'Best' means 31.
▸Gen 3–6Ruby/Sapphire → Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire
Breeding for IVs
Give a parent a Destiny Knot to pass down 5 of 12 IVs (Gen 6+). Power items pass one specific IV. Everstone passes nature.
Friend Safari / DexNav
X/Y Friend Safari Pokémon always have 2+ perfect IVs. OR/AS DexNav chains raise perfect IV counts.
▸Gen 7+Sun/Moon onward
Hyper Training
At Lv. 100, trade a Bottle Cap (one stat) or Gold Bottle Cap (all stats) to max IVs. The Pokémon must be Lv. 100.
Bottle Cap sources
S/M: Festival Plaza. US/UM: Royal Avenue. Sw/Sh: Battle Tower (BP). S/V: Delibird Presents shops (₽20,000).
Breeding still matters
Hyper Trained stats don't pass down through breeding — the real IVs do. Breed 5–6 perfect IV parents for egg projects.
▸Scarlet/Violet specificsGen 9
Tera raid IVs
5-star raids guarantee 4 perfect IVs, 6-star raids guarantee 5. Great Hyper Training candidates.
Mirror Herb + Egg Moves
Not IVs, but essential: give a Pokémon a Mirror Herb and picnic it with one that knows the egg move to learn it.
▸Legends: Z-APokémon Legends: Z-A
Hyper Training at the Justice Dojo
An NPC at the Justice Dojo maxes IVs for Bottle Caps (one stat each) or a Gold Bottle Cap (all six). Pokémon must be Lv. 50+.
Bottle Cap sources
Mable's Research (Lv. 36: 10 caps, Lv. 48: 3 Gold Caps), Infinite Z-A Royale rewards, Ranked Season 1, and Side Mission 103 'Facing the Furfrou League' (1 Gold Cap).
Alpha Pokémon
Alpha Pokémon have maxed IVs in at least 3 stats — great Hyper Training candidates or breeding-adjacent shortcuts.
Seeds of Mastery
Not IVs, but the other Justice Dojo NPC converts moves to Plus Moves for Seeds of Mastery, earned from defeating Alpha Pokémon.
Quick tips
- For most competitive builds you want 31 in everything except sometimes Attack (on special attackers, to reduce confusion/Foul Play damage) or Speed (for Trick Room).
- Hyper Training is usually faster than breeding a perfect Pokémon from scratch.
- A Ditto with perfect IVs (from raids) + Destiny Knot is the foundation of every breeding project.
- Mints (nature), Bottle Caps (IVs), and Vitamins (EVs) together can perfect any Pokémon — no breeding required.
