The Story

Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon revisit Alola with the same island-challenge structure — trials, Totem Pokémon, and grand trials — but with new faces: the Ultra Recon Squad have arrived from Ultra Megalopolis on a mission connected to the legendary Necrozma.

Necrozma, the Prism Pokémon, is stealing Alola's light, and its hunger leads it to clash with the legendary Solgaleo (Ultra Sun) or Lunala (Ultra Moon). Along the way you'll tackle Mina's brand-new trial in Vast Poni Canyon, surf between islands on Mantine, and ride through Ultra Wormholes.

The climax takes you to Ultra Megalopolis itself for a showdown with Ultra Necrozma — one of the toughest story boss fights in the series — before you return to claim the Champion title at Mount Lanakila.

After the credits, a familiar evil returns: Episode Rainbow Rocket brings back villain-team bosses from every generation, led by Giovanni, in a multiverse-threatening post-game chapter.

Good to Know

  • Everything from Sun & Moon applies: Ride Pokémon replace HMs, keep Exp. Share on, and use Refresh affection bonuses.
  • Totem Stickers are new — collect the sparkling stickers hidden across Alola and trade them to Samson Oak for Totem-sized Pokémon.
  • Mantine Surf between islands earns BP for battle items — it's worth learning the controls early.
  • Ultra Warp Ride (post-Poni) lets you hunt legendary Pokémon from past generations inside wormholes — stock up on Ultra Balls.
  • For Ultra Necrozma: it's Dragon/Psychic, blazing fast, and hits like a truck. A bulky Fairy or Steel type can save your run.
  • The Battle Agency (in Festival Plaza) lets you rent random Pokémon for single battles — great for earning Bottle Caps to Hyper Train your team.

After the Credits

  • Episode Rainbow Rocket: Giovanni recruits Archie, Maxie, Cyrus, Ghetsis, and Lysandre to seize Festival Plaza — with battles against every villain boss.
  • Ultra Warp Ride: dive through wormholes to catch nearly every legendary from past generations, including version-exclusive Ultra Beasts.
  • Battle Tree: the returning battle facility, now with an expanded roster of guest trainers.
  • Alola Photo Club and Mantine Surf leaderboards for completionists chasing every activity.
